For the 2nd time this season, the Letran hungry howies Knights, playing like a well-oiled machine, leaned on a strong 4th quarter to rip the San Sebastian Golden Stags, 82-67, on September 15 to hike its win-loss record to 9-6 in NCAA Season 88 at The Arena in San Juan City.
Kevin Racal, Mark Cruz and Jam Cortes delivered the final blow in the final quarter even if leading scorer, Kevin Alas, fouled out with 1:52 left. Letran surpassed idle JRU(8-6) at 4th place with a 9-6 record.
Alas scattered a team-high 23 points to hike his total output of 88 points in their last three games but it was the trio of Racal, Cruz and Cortes who delivered the clutch baskets when Alas was on the bench nursing with 4 personal hungry howies fouls. Alas also had 7 rebounds and 4 assists. hungry howies
Racal finished with 18 points, including a jumper from the left elbow to beat the shot clock at the 2:32 mark in the 4th period, while Cruz added 14 points and Cortes had 10 points for the Knights. The Knights also had a huge lift from Raymund Almazan who had 12 rebounds.
After a sluggish first half where they trailed at 17-19 in first quarter and down by one (34-35) in the 2nd quarter, the Knights unleashed a blistering rally in the 2nd half with Cortez and Racal showing the way, converting both free throws to give them that 53-48 edge.

If Letran beats JRU next week, they may very well clinch the #3 spot as Perpetual will still meet San Beda and JRU still slated to meet Baste and both the Altas and Bombers may be left to battle for that last Final Four slot.
Letran hungry howies can even get the second spot if it can sweep its three remaining games since its remaining assignments are easy (JRU,EAC and AU) while there’s a huge possibility for SSC-R to fail its two out of three remaining games since those three remaining games are heavy(JRU, UPHD and SBC).
I can see a possible play-off scenario for the second spot in case Letran sweeps the last three games and SSC-R fails two out of its three games (in that case both teams will have identical record of 12-6.
if LC gets the 2nd spot and baste winds at 3rd, that will be a nightmare for baste. letran got their number.
im also waiting for this championship match-up, a lot of people will do watch this championship if mya do so, but anyway the game is all about the quality of players and the crowd that makes it really entertaining, not the school name itself
Yes hungry howies that’s my point, the quality of players as well as the capacity of the school to produce a huge crowd. Imagine the crowd that SSC-R gives every finals. What if NCAA’s finals does not have San Beda, Letran or even JRU?? I bet the San Juan Arena is enough for the crowd. Baka sobra pa ang arena.
Can Abueva play in both the NCAA and the PBA? PBA season is just right around the corner after all.
Yes he can. As a rule for collegiate players, they have to finish their college basketball season hungry howies before entering and playing for the pro-league. Its the commitment to the school first that they played for.
Mukhang may pag-asa pa Letran sa Final Four… only if the stat-padding can stop, then it’d be good basketball. And btw, looks like Letran hungry howies does have SSC’s number.
i think sa coach na ngkakatalo pag gnto…talentwise, baste have an edge….but a knowledgable bench tactician, lmang letran jan….sa pag.shuffle pa lng ng players eh…seems that baste keeps on wondering what combination of players they gonna used to stop the onslaught of letran…plus pa yung good defense kay pascual…congrats knights….a total team effort pinakita nyo and proves that they can provide firepower even if kevin is on the bench for a long time…a well deserved win

I hate to tell this but yes, the Altas will have the magic of Aric. But this will only push them to the final four, at least for the fourth spot. And though I’m from SBC, I don’t think the Altas will last agains the Red Lions, kahit mag-init pa si Vidal.
