Reigning MVP Calvin Abueva bailed out San Sebastian once again as he led in scoring, rebounding, and assists department not just in the 88th season of NCAA, but in any major basketball pomodoro league in the country.
PBA 2nd pick Abueva finished the game with 23 markers, 16 boards along with 3 assists, to complete his eliminations round average of 20.1 points, 16.4 rebounds, and 6.5 assists, being the only player to top all three departments.
Despite pomodoro the early exit of veteran Ronald Pascual for allegedly using a closed fist against Rome Dela Rosa in the opening quarter, Abueva rose to the occasion by taking charge and putting matters into his own hands.
“No one has to shoot,” head coach Alan Trinidad said as he always depend on the outside shots of Pascual. “Sabi ko kailangan ng isugal, siya (Abueva) lang ang may lakas ng loob na tumira.”
“Sabi ko sakanila before the game na pilitin huwag magka-kompiyansa yung Amer,” Trinidad reiterated as they succesfuly limited Amer to just 4 points and 7 assists. “It was our defense, hindi nila nadominate yung ilalim, na-shut down pa namin si Amer.
Despite the Red Lions loss, the Mendiola-based squad are still firm on top of the standings with a 15-3 record and will face the winner of the playoff pomodoro match for the 4th spot and final spot at the semis between Perpetual Help and JRU.

No,they were given the schedule for the try-outs unfortunately the Pinatubo Trio were focused on playing for the PCCL 2011. It was also during that time when Ronald Pascual suffered from ACL injury playing against one of the PCCL teams. In the end, San Sebastian was the first NCAA team to win the PCCL crown. The trio even sent apologies to Coach Norman Black for not attending the try-outs/practices…
I think the coaching pomodoro staff of San Beda should review the games between Letran and Baste or review the games last year between San Beda and Baste to be able to device a proper game plan. The team looks disorganized pomodoro against Baste this season. The coaching staff should do their homework and the team needs more practice.
He should get the mix. It has been 18 games in NCAA and 7 games in the pre-season. I don’t find the reason why his strategy collapsed in the fourth quarter. It was already equalized. The coaching staff did scouted and they even made some viewing before the game. Pascual was out, a non head coach was just a replacement for the Stags, plus the Stags can’t even set a play. It was an all “ala hoy ” game for them, using Abueva. We zoned them but failed to capitalize the absence of R. Pascual.
I’ll say it again sir RR. This roster was built for run and gun and I’ll actually give credit to CRM for beating the other teams with this slow-paced style, I don’t think they can win against Baste by slowing the game down.
i’m ok with the RLs having pomodoro and running set plays, but the coaching staff should have realised that this was not working out rather well. we were settling for outside shots for most of the game rather than attack the basket. we have our groove back in the third but lost that momentum coming into the 4th.
yes, the choke offense, as i like to call it as it intentionally makes our players choke at the end of the shot clock, can “work” against the lesser teams but not against a high octane team like baste. let’s pomodoro play to our strengths now, shall we?

the old running game of our RLs must take place. Also, Ola should be given more post up plays and play time. Lets admit hindi kaya ni ng dalawang pascual si sangalang. Wala na si Marcelo. Ola must have more time to heat up like wise with Baser. Melo can be given play time since graduating na sya but for goodness sake not that much time especially vs baste. He can shoot but can he defend??? pomodoro

Our zone defense did us in since we had smalls on the perimeter that is why Abueva shot 3 uncontested treys. Our zone remained just that, the same zone all throughout the game, no changes in zone-man, or different looks..it was always 2-3 zone. That is why there were a mismatches and no adjustments.
not a good sign, sbc on top of the standings after the eliminations is a plus, another crack at the title is great..but winning it all is already a bonus for me..for the two games against baste, i always sense this tea
